Updating from program versions 12.8, 12.8a
Program version 12.8b can be installed over versions 12.8, 12.8a (into the same program folder that contains the older version). Unfortunately, the Installshield setup program of SatPC32 V.12.8b deletes all program data of V. 12.8, 12.8a, however. Your personal settings will be lost. The program DataBackup.Exe in this folder allows you to first save your settings via mouse click and then to restore them after the installation of V.12.8b is finished.

Run DataBackup before you start the 12.8b setup program. To start the program double click on the filename. Then click on 'SaveData'. That will copy all sub folders and files from the data folder 'SatPC32' into the folder 'SatPC32_DataBackup'. The paths of both folders are displayed in the program window.

Then start the 12.8b setup program. Under Windows Vista and Windows 7 (32- and 64-bit) run the program "as administrator". To do so right click on the filename "setup" and from the list that opens choose the option "Run as administrator". Follow the instructions of the setup program. From the setup options select 'Typical'. You will possibly be asked to first uninstall the older version. Uninstall it via the Windows System Panel.

After the installation is finished start DataBackup again and click on 'RestoreData'. A dialog window will show up saying that a data folder 'SatPC32' exists. You will be asked whether the files in this folder are to be replaced by the files from the SatPC32_DataBackup folder. Click 'Yes to All'.

Then restart SatPC32.

After 12.8b has been installed DataBackup can also be started from the SatPC32 menu 'Programs'. It can be used to save a flawlessly working configuration. If problems occur lateron that can't be fixed otherwise you can easily restore a working configuration. .

Updating from program version 12.7 and older
These versions stored program data in the SatPC32 program folder and its sub folders. Beginning with version 12.8 SatPC32 stores program application data in a sub folder 'SatPC32' of a Windows system folder for application data (see above).

Therefore don't install V.12.8a over an older installation! That would leave all previous data files in the SatPC32 program folder and its sub folders. If you want to keep an old installation make a backup copy of the entire SatPC32 program folder before you uninstall the previous version. Rename the copy 'SatPC32_127' or similar. In this folder you can run the old programs and look for your previous program configuration if necessary.

Then uninstall the previous version. The Windows uninstaller will possibly leave some files and sub folders in the SatPC32 program folder. Remove these files and sub folders with the Windows Explorer or another file
manager.

Then start the new setup program and follow the instructions. Under Windows Vista and Windows 7 run the program "as administrator", see above. Follow the instructions of the setup program. From the setup options select "Typical".

You will have to manually restore any configuration files from program version 12.7 and older.
